How long should I wait before checking my Canadian passport application status?

If you applied in person within Canada, wait 5 business days. If you applied by mail from Canada or the US, wait 10 business days. For applications submitted outside Canada or the US, wait at least 20 business days before checking.

What information do I need to track my passport status online?

You will need a valid File Number (found on your in-person receipt or requested via web form if you applied by mail), your exact given and last name, and your date of birth.

Can I check my Canadian passport status without a file number?

Yes. If you renewed online through the IRCC Portal, you can track it in real time from your account dashboard. If you applied by mail and lack a file number, you must complete an online web form to request your file identifier before using the online status checker.
