The Canadian government has taken the step to redesign the Canadian passport from cover to cover and added many new security features to help keep your identity safe.
The new passport will have:
- redesigned the cover
- updated the visa pages to showcase Canada’s natural beauty
- added images of Canada’s people, landscapes and wildlife that only appear in ultraviolet light
Depending on when you apply, you may get the new or the old version. However, both versions are secure and reliable, so applicants don’t need to renew early to ensure your passport is accepted as a travel document.
New art and new security features
- an updated, tamper-proof data page
- metallic foils in the shape of a maple leaf on the covers
- a debossed maple leaf on the back
On the inside of the front cover, we’ve added colour-shifting ink in the shape of a deer and snowflake, and a visible passport chip and antenna on the opposite page. These features can be used to confirm the validity of your passport and keep your information secure.
We’ve added a kinegram that changes colours and appears to move when you look at it from different angles. The same page also has a photo of you and your date of birth that appears and disappears depending on how you look at it.
The page with your personal information is now made of polycarbonate, which will last longer, and is less likely to be damaged by water than before. Your personal information is also now laser-engraved, rather than printed in ink on the page.
